Dr. Craig Aure

Dr. Craig Aure

Craig Delano Aure, DVM, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2004, in Portland, Oregon. He was 37 years old. Craig was born on July 31, 1967 in Flint, Michigan. After graduating from Millington High School in 1985, Craig moved to California, where he attended The University of California - Davis, near Sacramento. His love of the outdoors, nature and animals motivated him to study veterinary medicine and to travel to Africa to understand and observe animals in the wild. He went to Kenya during his junior year at UC Davis as part of the Education Abroad program in 1988-1989, and to Tanzania for a Wildlife Conservation program in 1992-93. At UC - Davis, he also met Niyo Kachalia and they married in 1991. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997 and practiced in a number of vet clinics around the San Francisco Bay area and most recently in Portland. Craig also attended film school in Vancouver, B.C. in 1992. He had a strong desire to make wildlife documentaries as part of his future career goals. He was happiest on the plains of Africa, observing the wildlife. Craig was adventurous in spirit and loved piloting his airplane as well as running marathons. In November 2003, he won a medal at the Humboldt Redwoods Marathon in California, finishing 4th out of 126 runners. His gifts, talents and contributions to the world will be greatly missed. Craig has two children, Tyler Ram Aure (age 6), of Milpitas, California, and Delilah Rosenblum (age 2 1/2) of Portland, Oregon.
